CNSA 222: Database Management Systems             (3 Credits)

An in-depth, hands-on survey course in which students will develop the skills and the

expertise required to design, implement, and manage databases using a relational

database management system (RDBMS).  Students will learn concepts of the

relational database model, the principles of database design and normalization, and

database administration.  In addition, the basic commands and functions of

Structured Query Language (SQL) will be used for data manipulation and extraction,

as well as for database administration.  Finally, topics will be introduced that relate

enterprise databases to client/server systems, application programming, Web

database development, and E-Commerce. Enterprise database products from

Microsoft or a competitor will be used for course projects and assignments.

Prerequisite: CNSA Sophomore standing
